The works to the National Concert Hall (NCH) involves a major refurbishment of the complex which will be carried out on a phased basis. Phase I involves a series of enabling works involving works to the Pathology Building, provision of temporary boilers, statutory approval for the demolition of the Anatomy building, rationalisation of the Butler Wings, relocation of the NCH Restaurant and Call Centre. Phase 2 involves the refurbishment, upgrade and extension to the existing 1865 block, which includes extending the auditorium along with a new rehearsal space for the National Symphony Orchestra and all backstage facilities. Phase 3 involves the design of a 500 seater recital performance space.
The Phase 1 works also includes the development of a new National Childrenโs Science Centre. This project involves the refurbishment and restoration of the existing north and part of the east wing of the NCH building and the Real Tennis building. The construction of new four storey over basement extension with a planetarium dome to the west of the existing NCH and a basement link from the Concert Hall to the Real Tennis building.
