Short description: Maintenance and Repair services for the East West Interconnector.
The East West Interconnector (EWIC) is a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnector which links the electricity transmission grids of Ireland and Great Britain. It has a power rating of 500 MW and utilises HVDC Voltage Source Converter technology. EWIC is a fully regulated interconnector which was developed and is owned by EirGrid Interconnector DAC (EIDAC) which is part of the EirGrid Group. The asset was built by ABB and entered into commercial operational in December 2012. The asset base consists of the following:
โ 500 MW Converter Station (Portan, Ireland),
โ 500 MW Converter Station (Shotton, GB),
โ High Voltage Cable Spares Facility,
โ 40 km HVDC Land Cable in Ireland,
โ 30 km HVDC Land Cable in GB,
โ 187 km HVDC Marine Cable,
โ 257 km Fibre Optic Cable (bundled with cable).
In respect of the above, EIDAC require a Maintenance and Repair Contractor to provide services commencing circa June 2018.
