Tenders are invited only from those companies capable of providing GB wide geographic coverage across both the Gas & Electricity markets. The service requirements apply to SMETS 2 smart, non-smart meters and IHDs (plus any other auxiliary equipment required for smart meter installations, e.g. gas regulators, regulator kits and flexes) the GB Energy Market. It is an absolute requirement that all meters provided comply with all applicable legal, regulatory and technical standards.

MAPs must be able to demonstrate that any equipment supplied under the contract meets relevant standards or code of practice of applicable national standards body and any other applicable technical regulation, and is able to achieve all of the physical, functional, interface and data capabilities that are required by relevant regulation, applicable SMETS version, the Communications Hub Technical Specification (CHTS), the Great Britain Companion Specification (GBCS) and the Security Characteristics for GB Smart Metering.
