The site is in the townland of Ballygarraun, Athenry, Co. Galway. The works are a continuation of the Phase 1 roadworks that were completed in 2010. Phase 1 links the M6 Motorway and regional Road R348. Phase 2 will extend northwards from the R348 and will include the following, along with other works:

— A roundabout;
— A road over rail bridge;
— A road over road bridge;
