Bantry Inner Harbour Development Phase 1

Port of Cork Company

The Bantry Inner Harbour Development Scheme aims to provide a sheltered harbour environment and marina with increased water depth and improved pier facilities in the Bantry Inner Harbour area.
The proposed Phase 1 Works will comprise:
(a) Dredging of an area of the inner harbour to a depth of between -3 m and -4 m Chart Datum,
(b) The reuse of dredge material as fill within the proposed structures and as beach nourishment (where suitable) at the Cove site north of Bantry Inner Harbour,
(c) The treatment of contaminated dredge material to immobilise contaminants prior to reuse as fill material within and behind the proposed Town Pier / Quayside structures and within the proposed Amenity Area,
(d) The refurbishment of the existing Town Pier; the construction of a length of Quayside; the construction of an Amenity Area and the installation of Marina and Breakwater type Pontoons,
(e) The protection of the proposed Amenity Area using a rock armour revetment and geotextile linings, and
(f) The placement of inert coarse grained dredge spoil at the Cove site, and the protection of this material using two rubble mound breakwaters extending from each side of the mouth of the Cove. It should be noted that there are considerable constraints on the construction activities. For the most part, the work area is to be confined to within the footprint of the Works, except at the commencement point. Because of constraints regarding the use of areas outside the footprint of the Works; and constraints regarding the timing of the dredging activities there are likely to be constraints regarding the sequencing of the Works. Refer to the attached drawings.
