Coillte has a national annual construction program of between approximately 100-130 km of new and upgrade of unbound forest roads and associated ancillary works. This program of works consists of a broad range of road construction projects including some small projects and projects with short lead in times. All works are to be completed to the standards and specifications as out- lined in the Coford Forest Road Manual โ Guidelines for the Design, Construction and Management of Forest Roads (copies available at www.coford.ie). All works are assigned to one of 8 pre-defined geographic areas, which are classified as Business Area Units (BAUs) in Coillte (see map in Appendix 4, showing areas). Tenderers should nominate in order of preference (e.g. 1, 2, 3 โฆ) their preferred BAU to provide road construction services and also to indicate their normal lead-times for availability for each BAU. Tenderers should only tender in a BAU(s) where they have the capacity to meet short lead in times which on occasion are a feature of forest road construction. If work is offered to a contractor who subsequently is unable to meet the lead in times submitted in their tender response it may affect any subsequent award of work.
