The former Bantry Bay Harbour Commissioners had retained RPS Consulting
Engineers to develop a scheme entitled “Bantry Inner Harbour Development”.
A Preliminary report was produced and presented to the Commissioners in February 2011. A redacted version of this report, together with the Site
Investigation factual report is attached in Annex 1.
Planning consent for the project was received from Cork County Council in August 2013 and full details of the planning documentation in relation to the application and its processing can be found by accessing the Cork County

As part of the engagement by the Port of Cork Company with Bantry Bay Harbour
Commissioners prior to the transfer on the 1st of January 2014 a presentation was made by RPS Consulting Engineers, on behalf of the Commissioners, on the project, how it might be phased and related costs. A copy of this presentation can be found in Annex 2.
Prior to the transfer the Port of Cork Company engaged with a range of stakeholders but particularly the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport to devise a Phase 1 of the Scheme which:
— Would attract funding from the Department to address “urgent and remedial” works.
— Would be viable and affordable.
— Could be delivered in a reasonable period of time.
— Could be added to with later phases if additional funding became available.
— Could hopefully be advanced within the planning consent already obtained.
Details of the Scheme devised and agreed are presented in Annex 3.
This is the Scheme for which the required technical and engineering services will relate.

Details of the Scheme requirements are set out in Clause 4 above and in Annex 3.The Technical, Engineering and Communication services likely to be required to deliver the project would include;— Liaising with Cork County Council Planning and Environmental Departments.— Updating, if necessary, any environmental information and documentation for the processing of foreshore, waste and dredging permits.— Preparation and lodgement of a Foreshore Application to the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government, addressing any queries arising from stakeholders and the processing of the application up to final Grant of Consent.— Preparation and management of the Dumping at Sea / Dredging Permit process through application, consent, monitoring and reporting phases.— Management of Waste Permit Process in relation to decontamination of contaminated dredged material and re-use of both clean dredged materials together with decontaminated material.— Consultations and engagements with statutory bodies, local authority and local community.— Preparation of preliminary report and updated costs for the scheme for discussion with client.
