Irish Water are undertaking the Cork Lower Harbour Main Drainage Project to
provide wastewater treatment for the catchment area which includes the towns of
Cobh, Passage West, Monkstown, Ringaskiddy, and Carrigaline and adjoining
areas. The wastewater treatment plant will be constructed on a greenfield site
near Shanbally, Co. Cork. General project information is contained on the public

Design Build WorksThe Wastewater Treatment Plant Contract consists of the design, construction and commissioning and testing of a new wastewater treatment plant on a greenfield site with an ultimate capacity of 80,000 PE, upgrade of Church Road Pumping Station (PS), mechanical and electrical installation at the Monkstown PS, pumping station at Shanbally, gravity sewers and rising mains and other associated works of a similar nature.The works will be phased to align with the connection of flows and population growth. The Contractor will connect flows from Carrigaline and Shanbally under the contract. Remaining flows will be connected as the seperate network contracts complete. Full details of the phasing will be detailed in the Invitation To Tender (ITT).Operation and Maintenance WorksThe operation and maintenance Contract shall be carried out in accordance with Performance Management System (PMS) as published by the Water Services Training Group. The operation and maintenance will include the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant and may include the operation of outlying pumping stations at Church Road, Carrigaline and/or Monkstown and any associated maintenance. The duration of the operate phase of the contract is not yet determined but it is envisaged that it will be of the order of 7 to 20 years with options to opt out at defined periods and options to extend the period. Full details will be provided in the ITT.Independent testing of the main influent, effluent and sludge parameters, odour, noise and other parameters as detailed in the ITT documents will be required as part of the Design, Build and Operate (DBO) Contract.
