Project Supervisor Design Proces - Castlebar Pool Complex, national Outdoor Pursuits Academy, Athletics Track, Playing Pitches and Sports Pavillion

Mayo County Council

The first site, slightly removed from the town core, is located at Knockacroghery, to the west of the town, centre. It is a contoured site, bounded to the south by an access road, to the west by Lough Lannagh Hoilday Village, to the east by Castlebar Tennis Club and, to the north by the recently developed public amenity of Lough Lannagh.
Following a successful Part 8 Planning process, we are now in a position to proceed to design development (Stage 2) with the following design brief revisions;
โ€” 8 lane, 25 x 16 m pool with static depth of 2 m and movable floor to one end.
โ€” Leisure pool with additional health/ fitness features.
โ€” The main pool shall be designed in such a way as to be easily extended to 50 m in length, if required at some future date.
โ€” Inclusion of a dry play area.
โ€” The pool complex is approx. 3,200 mยฒ whilst the annex National Outdoor Pursuits Academy is approx. 800 mยฒ.
Site works include car-parking, retaining, landscaping, diversion of public services, pedestrian access to Lough Lannagh with floating pontoon and kayak launch area. A services outbuilding and underground storage units are also included in the schedule of accommodation.
The second site, again slightly removed from the town core, is located just southwest of the first site. For the most part, it is level and adjacent to the Westport to Dublin rail line.
Following a successful Part 8 Planning process, we are now in a position to proceed to design development (Stage 2) with the following design brief revisions;
โ€” Site layout redesign due to amended site development boundary and
โ€” Replanning of accommodation due to the expected omission of planned link road through site.
Site works include, but are not restricted to, reduction and re-raising of levels, car-parking, culverting, retaining, landscaping and diversion of public services.
It is envisaged that the project will be completed and open for use by June 2015.
