Personnel to deliver education programme
Ireland's Road Safety Authority (RSA) is tasked with the delivery of road safety messages to a wide audience. In order to do this, the RSA have a visible presence on the road through the use of a variety of road safety programmes. โStreetSmartโ is a road safety intervention aimed to bring road safety to life in a fun way for young school children via role-play. The activities have been designed for three distinct age groups: 4-5, 5-8, and 8-12 year olds. There are different hazards for each age group โ and different responses are required for the various dangers highlighted.
The central prop is a โStreetscapeโ mat which is a typical street scene with traffic lights, pedestrian crossings and public buildings designed for children aged between 4 and 8. Children are given โwalking cars' and โstand up bikes' and taught how to use the road safely. The Streetscape can be set up in the school hall or public building. The successful personnel would liaise with the teachers beforehand to determine the best activities to offer to students. Children can participate in a range of activities such as storytelling, road safety games and an interactive road safety question and answer session. Activities would be facilitated by successful personnel and teachers and is supported by a โTeachers handbookโ. The RSA wish to provide one team of two full time educational personnel to deliver the road safety message. There may be an opportunity to expand this educational resource by an additional two personnel in the future, within the life time of this contract.
