NUIG/BUILD/025/13 - Prequalification submission for Works Contractors for Human Biology Building-Main Building Contract

The Human Biology Building will be a new research and teaching facility for the three University departments of Pharmacology & Therapeutics,
Anatomy and Physiology. The contract includes the design, construction and commissioning of the building and associated site works. The tender documents will contain a design that is largely complete and the existing designers will be novated to the Contractor.
The site is located in an active and busy University campus, in a sensitive central location on the campus, adjacent to occupied buildings and pedestrian / traffic routes. The site is close to Protected Structures including buildings and the adjacent canal.
The proposed new building has a gross floor area of approximately 8 200 mยฒ and will be located on the south campus immediately to the north of รras na Mac Lรฉinn.
A separate Enabling Works Contract will be carried out in advance to demolish existing buildings and excavate the basement area. The Enabling Works Contract is being procured separately to the Main Building Contract which is the subject of this questionnaire.
The new building is four storeys over semi basement, with a roof top plant room and an exterior envelope in aluminium, limestone and glass. The building has a reinforced concrete structure and significant mechanical and electrical services installations. Accommodation includes undergraduate teaching laboratories, research laboratories, offices, open plan write-up spaces, meeting rooms, tiered lecture theatres and other ancillary areas. The contract includes the construction of a separate small electrical substation building close to the Human Biology Building.
