Cork City Water Supply Scheme - Rehabilitation of North Low North & North Low East District Meter Areas - Watermains rehabilitation - Works Packages 1 & 2

Cork City Council (Utility)

Cork City Council intends to rehabilitate watermains in the North Low North and North Low East DMAs of the city. These watermain rehabilitation works will be carried out in two discrete works packages namely Works Package 1 and Works Package 2.
Works Package 1 includes the rehabilitation of approximately 14km of water mains, which are primarily old cast iron mains and the replacement of approximately 2200 no. services, including the provision of new services on the private side to approximately 730 no. properties currently supplied from common or looped lead services located in backyards.
Works Package 2 includes the rehabilitation of approximately 15km of water mains, which are again primarily old cast-iron mains, and the replacement of approximately 1160 no. services, including the provision of new services on the private side to approximately 300 no. properties currently supplied from common or looped lead services located in backyards.
As stated, some of the existing service connections are located at the rear of properties and supplied via common backyard service connections. The provision of individual new water services to such properties will require either:
- trenchless technologies to install new services under existing properties to the existing connection point to the
rear of the property ,or
-a combination of trenchless technologies to install new services to the front of properties from where they will be plumbed by the contractor via the external walls into the properties to connect to existing plumbing.
For both Works Packages, the scope of works will include the supply, construction, testing, and commissioning of new mains and services and the decommissioning of existing mains and services. It will also include the management of public relations with property owners to whom new service connections are being provided, and
with the general public and key stakeholders who may be affected by the works.
Traffic management will be a significant element of the works and some nightworks will be required.
Works Package 1 and Works Package 2 will be completed as separate contracts, and accordingly applicants will be shortlisted separately for both contracts under this competition. Applicants may wish to be considered for Works Package 1 only, Works Package 2 only, or both and must clearly state their preference in their
application. Where applicants do not state a preference they will be considered for both.
The scope of the works may be increased/decreased at the discretion of Cork City Council, dependent on the availability of funding, DECLG approval and procurement rules.
