Requirements for new barge.Port of Cork currently utilises two steel flat top barges for the berthing of Cruise vessels at its Cobh Cruise Terminal. The barges are used to offset moored vessels from the existing quay to achieve adequate water depth and for the accommodation of associated passenger gangways from the ship and onto the quayside.The Port wishes to acquire a further flat top barge to fulfil a similar function. The barge shall be provided on a design and supply basis. The Port will also consider offers of existing barges in a good condition and on demonstration of compliance with the tender technical specification.The barge shall be of steel construction and is required to have an overall width of 20 m with a length no less than 50m and no greater than 70m. In use for the proposed function for the accommodation of foot passenger traffic the barge shall be capable of being ballasted to a freeboard of 1.8m.In addition the barge shall be fully in class (DNV or Lloyds) and shall have a hull strength suitable for a minimum uniform deck load of 12 tonnes/m². The barge will be utilised for multiple functions and recessed bollards and other deck fittings will be an advantage.The barge will be used for the berthing of vessels and whilst there will be no specific design requirements in terms of fendering or resistance to lateral loads, the contractor will be required to demonstrate that the barge has equal or greater lateral stiffness than those barges currently employed by the port in a similar function.
