NUIG/BUILD/016/12; Works Contractor for Life Course Studies Building

National University of Ireland, Galway (NUI Galway)

Applicants are advised that an OJEU Competition for the NUI Galway Life Course Studies Building was previously published on eTenders and the Official Journal of the EU on the 14.3.2011 that this competition concluded with the receipt of tenders under the Public Works Contract for Building Works Designed by the Contractor on the 2.9.2011. No Contract Award was made by NUI Galway and the above competition was terminated on 17.7.2012 due to the significant delay in obtaining a decision from An Bord Pleanala on the final grant of planning and the time period which has elapsed since receipt of tenders.
The Life Course Studies Building (LCSB) will be located on the NUI Galway North campus, and will be a new purpose built building designed to provide an integrated multidisciplinary solution to the capital needs of the social science programmes at NUI Galway covering older people, children and family and people with disabilities. To this end, the new building will bring together the following 3 existing research groups into a single building:
โ€” The Child and Family Research Centre,
โ€” The Irish Centre for Social Gerontology, and
โ€” The Centre for Disability Law and Policy.
The building will be approximately 3,600 m2 in size and will contain the following types of accommodation:
โ€” academic and administration offices,
โ€” flat and tiered teaching spaces,
โ€” post-graduate study rooms,
โ€” observational suites,
โ€” board and seminar rooms,
โ€” PC labs, and
โ€” all other associated ancillary and support spaces required.
The building shall be designed and constructed as Phase 1 of a larger building, so as to allow phased expansion of the building in the future.
A particular feature of this building will be the need to ensure that the needs of the various groupings of people using the facility (children, families, the aged, people with disabilities) are catered for. The building must be designed in such a way to be as inviting and customer friendly as possible for users and members of the public who would not necessarily be familiar with Universities or such institutions.
