Procedure
Justification of the accelerated procedure:
A recent survey of the Washer and Sterilisers in the Hospital's Sterile Services Department has indicated that the equipment shows an unnecessary high number of unscheduled breakdowns which are affecting service delivery. The autoclaves have an excessively high number of uses indicated by cycle counters and sterile water and steam services supplied to this equipment are at capacity. These combined issues are making it difficult to continuously meet the requirements of the New Re-usable Invasive Medical Device Standards as set out by the HSE and the ongoing demands of a very busy surgical service. The risk is that imminent failure due to recent service impacts may reduce surgical service causing undue delays to patient care.
