Cork City Libraries โ€” a service of Cork City Council.
Cork City Libraries provide a range of library and information services to the people of Cork, and through our websites, to anyone interested in the history and culture of Cork. The Cork City Libraries network comprises the City Library, six local libraries, a mobile library service, a service to housebound persons, and an online presence. We provide books, CDs, DVDs, videos, and audio books, for use within the library or for home use, and a full range of learning, reference and information services and resources, in particular at the City Library. We also provide computers with fast Internet access throughout our network of libraries, and eBooks and audiobooks downloadable to usersโ€™ own devices.
Visitors are welcome to use our facilities free of charge for on-site reading/enquiries. Registered membership entitles members to borrow items (books, CDs, DVDs, etc.) for home use. Internet access is available to members and non-members, at 1 euro per half-hour session. Enquiries can be in person, by telephone, letter, or e-mail and are welcome from everybody; whether members or not. More than half of our users are entitled to free membership.
The Central and Bishopstown libraries are open six days per week, Monday to Saturday, and our other local libraries are open Tuesday to Saturday (except for Saturdays of bank-holiday weekends).
We provide online access to our catalogue in our libraries or through our websites www.corkcitylibraries.ie. and www.corkpastandpresent.ie.
All interested persons may browse our catalogue, which includes an in-house index of articles from newspapers and periodicals since the mid-1990s. Library members with PIN numbers can renew items by accessing the online catalogue, and can also place requests for items from the catalogue.
We provide a well-developed and well-regarded Local Studies service, including online at www.corkpastandpresent.ie.

Cork County Library & Arts Service, a division of Cork County Council, consists of a network of 28 Branch Libraries and five mobile libraries serving Cork county. The Branch Libraries of varying sizes, are located in every town in the county with a headquarters located at Carrigrohane Road, in Cork city. Cork County has a population of 399 216 (Census 2011). During 2011 there were 1 917 619 book and non-book issues with a library membership of 60 906.
The library service provides the community with a comprehensive range of material for information, study and recreation. It offers the public a wide range of services including book lending for Adults and Children, books on CD, DVDs, local and community information, internet facilities, author visits, and craft workshops. The Reference and Local Studies department based in Library Headquarters, consists of a wide range of Cork and Irish related materials. It also includes an extensive Drama and Choral Music collections.
The majority of stock is ordered centrally in Library Headquarters, with a smaller proportion ordered by Branch Libraries around the county. All items arrive at Library Headquarters to be processed and they are then distributed throughout the county.
Fiction and non-fiction is selected to meet current and anticipated interests of the libraryโ€™s adult readers, across a variety of genres by Irish and international authors and covering a diverse and wide range of topics. Purchases are determined in large by reader requests (for current and past titles), best seller listings, trade catalogues, media reviews, Literary Award listings and book club selections. Juvenile stock selection is influenced by information from trade press, advance publication updates from suppliers and websites; borrower requests also form a large part of what is ordered. We order a wide range of childrenโ€™s books - from board books through to young adult and non-fiction titles and for all age groups in between. Of particular interest are Irish and Ireland related titles.
