Walkways project evaluation
The โWalkwaysโ project wish to invite suitably qualified and experienced contractors to evaluate the โWalkwaysโ project as outlined in this document.
The Walkways project is collaborative project between three agencies, part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Ireland Wales programme (Interreg 4A). The three agencies are Agoriad Cyf, Wales (lead partner), Walkinstown Association (WALK), Dublin and Isle of Anglesey County Council, Wales.
Walkways target groups are primarily people with an intellectual disability, who often have a physical disability, sensory impairment, a mental health problem, challenging behaviors, medical condition and/or autism. Mainstream training and employment services are too generic for this group and do not address their needs due to the complexity/specialty of the interventions required. State provision for this group currently comprises care services in congregate/segregated environments with few opportunities for community participation and no engagement with economic activity. Most are totally dependent on local authority day services and Welfare benefits.
The aim of the Walkways project is to focus support on key transition points for individuals in the target group by delivering targeted interventions focussed on their accessing sustainable employment options. The project will engage existing service structures to allow progression towards economic activity and create new roles within existing provision. It will also utilise local community networks (employers, peers, families, community groups) to broaden community participation.
