Technical Training for Permanent Way Staff
Iarnród Éireann - Irish Rail has a requirement for Technical Training for installation, maintenance and repair of the permanent way.
The aim of the training course(s) is to develop the technical proficiency and competency of the Chief Civil Engineers (CCE) staff responsible for the maintenance, installation, renewal and repair of the permanent way (track, points and crossings, level crossings, boundary fences and lineside features and equipment).
The training course(s) will be prepared and delivered by the successful training provider. The training material to be delivered shall be tailored to suit the specific needs of the Iarnród Éireann system where it differs from other systems.
General objectives of the training courses are:
— to increase technical knowledge base of CCE staff,
— to enable staff to build a transparent portfolio of training,
— to outline duties of staff when conducting specific technical tasks,
— to increase the participants’ understanding and awareness of the impact of their role which they fulfil within Iarnród Éireann,
— to increase the participants’ understanding of the need to carry out certain tasks in prescribed ways.
Individual training courses will include the following:
1. maintenance of plain track;
2. maintenance of points & crossings;
3. maintenance tamping in plain track;
4. identification and rectification of track faults;
5. track recording vehicle outputs;
6. clearances.
The successful training provider must provide all training materials used i.e. notes, copies of slides / overheads, etc. appropriate to their portion of the training courses.
The successful training provider will include a formal evaluation/assessment of the training and put mechanisms in place to feedback the delegates’ results in this assessment to Iarnród Éireann.
