Survey of holiday visitor attitudes to destinations 2011 - 2013

Fáilte Ireland-National Tourism Development Authority

Fáilte Ireland is the National Tourism Development Authority, established by the Irish Government in May 2003 to guide and promote the evolution of tourism as a leading indigenous component of the Irish economy. To this end, Fáilte Ireland, working in partnership with the tourism industry, provides an extensive range of support services and business solutions designed specifically to develop and sustain Ireland as a high-quality and competitive tourism destination.
Our vision for Irish tourism is that of a dynamic, innovative, sustainable and highly regarded sector offering international and domestic visitors a positive and memorable experience beyond their expectations.
Fáilte Ireland has for many years conducted surveys among overseas holiday visitors designed to identify and measure their attitudes to Ireland as a holiday destination. Key tourism destinations within Ireland have now been identified for development as part of Fáilte Ireland’s strategy 2010 - 2012. It is therefore necessary to not only track the overall attitude of holidaymakers to Ireland but to also measure attitudes of holidaymakers to specific destinations throughout the country. A Destination Scorecard has been developed in order to effectively measure progress in relation to the key destinations and the Survey of Holiday Visitor Attitudes will provide a significant input in respect of consumer based performance measures.
Fáilte Ireland believes that the research should consist of two complementary elements:
— A survey of overseas and domestic holidaymakers conducted at specific tourist locations in each of the 10 key destinations identified,
— A short survey of overseas holidaymakers departing from the main ports and airports in the Republic of Ireland in order to gather national data.
Tendering agencies are free to suggest alternative survey approaches if they believe that they could more effectively meet Fáilte Ireland’s needs.
See Appendix A of the attached RFT document for a detailed list of requirements.
