UCD is issuing this notice inviting expressions of interest for the ‘UCD Science Centre Phase 2 Fit-out - Works Package A’, using the restricted procedure. The purpose of the first stage is to obtain information from applicants to determine their suitability on the basis of financial standing, technical competence and capability and relevant experience to carry out the project.
It is envisaged that the top 5-8 suitable candidates will be shortlisted and invited to tender.
Please note this is not a tender document.
To register their interest, applicants are required to complete the Suitability Assessment questionnaire. The onus rests with the applicant to provide all details relevant to the works required. All applicants must provide the information required under the relevant headings, in the spaces provided, and in the format requested.
As part of the expansion and refurbishment of the UCD Science Centre development, the University is constructing c. 20 000 m2 of new accommodation in conjunction with the refurbishment of c. 10 000 m2 of existing facilities. The completed development will be seen as a flagship for science teaching and learning and will be delivered to an exceptionally high standard in terms of sustainable design, the quality of build and efficiency of operation.
The purpose of this qualification process is to prepare a shortlist of suitably experienced and qualified Works Contractor candidates to undertake elements of the fit-out works to the Science Centre development. The proposed works will be concentrated within the following locations;
1. Ground floor approx. area 1,314 m², west end of Science South, the lecture theatre Hub building and the Science East building;
2. Third floor approx. area 2,249 m², full area of the Science East building.
3. Fourth floor approx. area 2,243 m², full area of the Science East building.
The base building of the before mention development is completed under a separate contract. The proposed accommodation will comprise office (cellular and open plan), meeting rooms and laboratories (wet, dry and damp). The works will consist of the fit-out of spaces including internal partitions, internal floors, walls and ceilings finishes, internal completions, fixtures and fittings, supply and installation of laboratory furniture and fume hoods and the installation of all required gases and services to the laboratory furniture. All primary and secondary fix mechanical and electrical installation works undertaken will require an interface with the primary Mechanical and Electrical service installation works carried out under the main contract works completed under a separate contract. All testing, commissioning and validation of equipment, furniture and services will also be necessary. There will also be a requirement for the coordination and management of the installation of direct furniture / signage / AV equipment and equipment contracts procured by UCD. The proposed works will take place throughout the University academic calendar, during both peak and off-peak periods within tight time scale. The works are located in the vicinity of extensive research activity and teaching facilities (where sensitive equipment will be in use and strict noise and vibration limits will be set) on a live / populated university campus within a constrained working environment. It is anticipated that multiple works teams will be required in order to meet specific deadlines associated with the academic calendar and critical milestone dates. The successful contractor may be required to share the site and/or work on the site with other contractors. The management of people, movement of plant and material resources, supply chain and logistical planning, and the co-ordination of the full scope of contract works are paramount in the successful delivery of this complex project and ensure minimum disruption to University activities. Previous experience of working on a live campus within sensitive areas will need to be demonstrated by the Works Contractor.The Works Contractor must demonstrate capability and competence of projects of similar nature and complexity, along with the quality assurance and project management procedures which were in place to achieve these.The successful contractor is to note that the works may also include: i) Extended maintenance contracts for the Works Contractor, and/or ii) The supply and installation of loose furniture.
