Professional support services for Irish Aid WorldWise School Linking and Immersion Scheme

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade/An Roinn Gnóthaí Eachtracha agus Trádála

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), through Irish Aid, supports the WorldWise Schools Linking and Immersion Scheme, since its inception in 2007. The day-to-day management and provision of professional services for the WorldWise Scheme is subcontracted to an external specialist agency. The current three year contract expires in March 2012. DFAT now wishes to invite tenders for the management and provision of professional services for phase two of the WorldWise scheme for the period from April 2012 until August 2015.
Irish Aid provides support for development education initiatives in second level schools under Irish Aid’s Development Education Strategy Plan 2007-2011. The WorldWise school linking and immersion scheme is one of a number of other initiatives supported along with awards, school networks, resource development, capacity building and teacher education.
The aim of WorldWise is to raise awareness of development issues among Irish post-primary students and teachers and the wider community, and to heighten interest in and relevance of development education within the curriculum. WorldWise has two key objectives, namely;
1. To strengthen the integration of development education in participating second level schools in Ireland through involvement in learning partnerships with schools in the global south and
2. To enable the building of equal and mutually beneficial learning partnerships between schools in Ireland and developing countries.
