Inspection, Registration and Classification Services for the Registered Accommodation Sectors
Fáilte Ireland is the National Tourism Development Authority, established by the Irish Government in May 2003 to guide and promote the development of tourism as a leading indigenous component of the Irish economy. To this end, Fáilte Ireland, working in partnership with the tourism industry, provides an extensive range of support services and business solutions designed specifically to develop and sustain Ireland as a high-quality and competitive tourism destination.
Fáilte Ireland works in partnership with Tourism Ireland (who promote Ireland as a holiday destination to overseas markets) and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board (responsible for tourism development and marketing in Northern Ireland). It also leads an extensive domestic holiday campaign via ‘Discover Ireland,’ which features comprehensive information and listings for Irish accommodation, activities, events, tourist attractions and Irish holiday special offers.
Fáilte Ireland works with the tourism industry in areas including business support, enterprise development, training and education, research, marketing and regional development. With a dedicated team working across six regions, Fáilte Ireland offers tourism professionals and service providers a wide range of support services.
The Tourist Traffic Act 1939 – 2003 enables Fáilte Ireland, The National Tourism Development Authority, to delegate to a contractor inspection and associated functions and powers under the said Acts in relation to registration evaluation and grading of tourist accommodation. The term of the present contract ends on 31.5.2012. The term of this contract will be for 5 years.
Tenders are now being sought from external parties to carry out the registration of specified accommodation categories, as called for under the Tourist Traffic Acts 1939-2003, the classification (or grading) of certain types of these accommodations, the provision of advice to accommodation providers and developers concerning registration and classification and the collection of annual renewal fees. The categories of establishment requiring registration under the current statute are:
Hotels.
Guest houses.
Holiday Hostels (Registered and Listed).
Youth Hostels.
Holiday Camps.
Caravan and Camping Parks.
Holiday Cottages and Holiday Apartments.
Fáilte Ireland reserves the right to add or subtract from this list in accordance with changes to the current statute or as organisational requirements change.
