Hotel occupancy survey
Fáilte Ireland was established in 2003 under the National Tourism Development Authority Act to guide and promote tourism as a significant driver of the Irish economy. It provides both strategic and practical support to develop and sustain this country as a high-quality and competitive tourist destination.
Fáilte Ireland acts as a corporate resource for tourism professionals and service providers at local, regional and national levels. It provides those involved, or considering becoming involved, in Irish tourism with a one-stop-shop to meet their business or professional needs.
The Hotel Occupancy Survey has been conducted for over thirty years and monitors hotel performance in Ireland in terms of capacity, demand and occupancy rates nationally, regionally, by location (rural vs. urban), by size and by grade of hotel. The country of residence of guests staying in hotels is also collected. A panel of over 250 hotels throughout the country currently participates in the survey. Fáilte Ireland uses the data collected over the course of the year to measure hotel performance and generate marketing information on an on-going basis. Fáilte Ireland communicates the results of the survey to the Hotel sector and the wider tourism industry to enable them to adapt rapidly to any market changes. Fáilte Ireland invites hotels to participate in the survey and in return they receive regular updates on performance, a summary of annual results and an annual report.
