Archaeological Services at Thornton Hall

Irish Prison Service

The Irish Prison Service (IPS) wish to undertake a phase of pre-development archaeological investigations in advance of the construction of the new prison at Thornton Hall, Kilsallaghan, Co Dublin. The results of an extensive series of non-invasive archaeological and architectural surveys, augmented by a phase of testing, previously undertaken as part of the compilation of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the proposed works, revealed eight sites of archaeological significance, five of which (Sites 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8), are the subject of this ITT.
